Derek started a unique journey of self discovery in his teenage years with martial arts and Eastern medicine. His curious, intuitive and empathetic nature led him on a path to be a massage therapist. He studied shiatsu at the Charles River School of Shiatsu in 2001 and moved to the west coast shortly after. He settled in Huntington Beach, CA and had a successful bodywork practice. Years later he came back to Massachusetts and studied massage therapy in Boston. There he refined his knowledge in Deep Tissue, Sports, and Myofascial Release.
He continues to elevate his practice by learning from some of the most respected massage therapists in the profession. He‘s well versed in Advanced-Trainings which specializes in a orthopedic and myofascial approach to massage. He is trained in Cupping Therapy and uses his knowledge to form a Neuromuscular Therapy approach to his work. His experience has led him to work with all kinds of people from professional and college level athletes to your next door neighbor. His unique ability to hone in on what and where a clients pain comes from is what keeps them coming back. He is a seasoned massage therapist in Cambridge and Boston. If you’re looking for real relief, Derek will help you find Zen.
Massage therapy can be a healthy and safe alternative for pain management. It can be beneficial pre-op or post-op (with a doctors clearance), can reduce scarring, and put you at ease so your body can do the work it needs. Massage can give your body a sense of freedom you may or may not have experienced before. The particular work I do is focused on helping you reprogram your body to it’s optimal performing capacity. Modalities I practice are Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue, Sports Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Swedish and Cupping.
It’s a great tool to help reduce pain, gain better mobility, relieve tension and give a over-all sense of zen. Lower stress levels boosts your immune system! You will reap the benefits of massage when it becomes a regular part of your life.
*If you are experiencing intense pain please see a doctor. I am not one and not claiming to be.*
During your first visit we will go over what brought you here. Is it a sports injury? Chronic pain? Stress from work/life? Or it could be as simple as wanting to relax. I’ll design a treatment plan specifically for you. With a combination of deep tissue and sports massage, you’ll feel great. We will review your health history together so we can move forward confidently. My knowledge in Orthopedic and Myofascial techniques gives me a slow moving, engaged and focused style. This enables me to work deeply and effectively. I work with the body’s fascia to help relieve pain, find better posture, and give you some over all relief.
